Deals!

20 zippers at 25 cents each! Brilliant! I now have enough zippers to last quite a while, and most of them are long ones, so it's easy to use in big OR small projects.

A piece of fabric bundled with some others. I like the others, but this one is my favorite. Ugly, but cool a the same time.

Let the sewing begin! Films to be watched during my next bit of sewing:

This little green and blue bag is for my sister's computer. It was hard work, but totally cute! She wanted a strap, so that made it a little harder, and we just hope the strap is strong enough.

This lovely laptop bag (and accessory bag on top of it) are my friend Rebekah's. She found the fabric, and I made the bags. More practice on making laptop bags! I'm really getting the hang of it!

cool stuff, free stuff

I also like to get to the sheets/bedding area. I found this sheet at one Goodwill and spent $3.99! It was a fitted and flat sheet set. The pattern has a cool vintage look and I excitedly began chopping it up into a purse the moment I got home. (Okay, exaggeration; I washed them first, and thought and planned, then I chopped.) For the sides I used some blue fabric that used to be scrubs and was sitting around the sewing room.

There is a great advantage I have in having a mom who always starts sewing projects, and then never finishes, leaving behind the fabric and materials. My own sewing room is like a little thrift store. Except everything is free.

finished product:

"Goodwill- Big Thrill"

This is our little catch phrase when my sister and I shop at Goodwill. And yes, I would call it thrilling to be getting fantastic deals there. Or anywhere, actually. But Goodwill has special treasures.

I am not very patient when going through the clothes at Goodwill. It is too overwhelming to me! All those clothes, rack after rack; the good, the bad, and the ugly all mixed in together! And too often the "good" remains hidden, while the "ugly" scares you away!

Today I went straight to the fabric/sewing/craft area, which is unfortuantely small at my local Goodwill. But there is a little container of zippers. These zippers are used- free of fabric and mostly free of threads- but in excellent condition. They come in color-coordinated groups of four, and each little group costs 99 cents. That's right! 4 great zippers for $1!! And some of these zippers are over 20 inches long, in case you have larger projects!

Another thing I always look for in this section is knitting needles. They are usually in great shape and at only 99 cents per pair (sometimes less!), I feel like I am stealing them! They can be 7 times as much new, or even more, depending on what kind of needles you like. If you want to start knitting and you aren't picky, get over to Goodwill!

I bought 16 zippers and a pair of pretty blue size 10 knitting needles and spent $5.25!
